What's in a name?

“Light” is a metaphor used extensively in the Bible to describe God, Jesus, and followers of Jesus.
God is light
(1 John 1:5)
Jesus is the light of the world
(John 8:12)
Followers of Jesus are called to reflect the light of God to the world
(Matthew 5:14)
God is our 'leading light' and we are called to be that light to others.
As followers, Jesus is our ‘Leader’ – the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords
(Revelation 17:14).
He models a perfect example of leadership, and that is through service to others
(John 13:14-17).

To extend the metaphor further, “leading lights” is a nautical term for a pair of light beacons whose purpose is to indicate a safe passage for vessels entering dangerous waters.
You don't have to think too hard to see a light that keeps you safe and guides you from danger being a comparison to the light of God.
God protects us and guides us, and he puts His light in us so we can do the same for others.
