Our history

“Leading Lights” began with a small group of Christians with a shared desire to make a positive impact in our community while learning together how to best carry out Jesus’ command of the Great Commission – making disciples of all nations. At its heart was a set of trusting, prayerful relationships rather than a corporate entity.

In our early discussions together, we kept leaning into the metaphor of ‘light’. The Bible tells us in Matthew 5:16 that letting our light shine by doing ‘good works’ will draw others to the Father and glorify Him and so we took that as our task: how can we inspire Christians to be the light in the dark areas of our community? To do ‘good works’ so others will see and be drawn to Him. To be leaders, leading people to know His light.

While many of us were politically focused to start (which is a realm that certainly has a lot of darkness in it), we know that not everyone is called to politics and more importantly, that God is Sovereign over – and interested in – all spheres of society. So we wanted to reach out and create a place where we could inspire, encourage, and support members of the body of Christ to become ‘lights’ in whatever their area of influence is.

Many Christians are already doing this to wonderful effect, and we see the church grow because of it. We want those who are living this way of life to join us to teach and inspire others.

Some Christians, however, want to be involved in their community, but just don’t know all the opportunities that are out there within their area of interest or expertise. We’re here to help connect them and support them in fulfilling the purpose God has put on their life.

And some Christians haven’t quite heard their calling yet – and that’s okay too. If that’s you, we want to walk alongside you as you listen for the call. To provide you with opportunities and suggestions and support you in developing your goals.

In short: wherever you are in your life and whatever you are doing for the Kingdom, we want you to win.

The Kingdom of Heaven never moves faster than the speed of relationship, so our goal is to develop relationships with people; learn their interests, passions, and calling, and connect them with meaningful leadership opportunities where they can let their light shine in our community.
